The Armenian-Azerbaijani Negotiations Don’t Play the Role of Preventing War Anymore (Recording)

June 07,2012 17:45

Styopa Safaryan, a member of the Heritage Party executive committee, is concerned about the attitude of America and Russia, which, according to the impression of the former MP, doesn’t correspond to their interest in preventing the resumption of hostilities. “If the United States is serious interested in not allowing hostilities here, it has sufficient influence on Azerbaijan and Armenia and also does Russia,” Stepan Safaryan said to www.aravot.am.

In his opinion, Azerbaijan’s subversive attacks on Armenian positions, the reaction of the international community to the possible hostilities tell about Azerbaijan’s tests and calculations, “There shouldn’t have been a symmetric response to these moves of Azerbaijan – i.e. a dead man for a dead man – but the military aggression should have gotten an inadequate political response. Negotiations don’t play the role of preventing war anymore. Symmetric military responses – I don’t want to say that they are inefficient – don’t solve the problem and added to that, Armenia doesn’t show that it will solve the issue politically.”VOICE229
