Vardan Bostanjyan, a Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) member of the 4th convocation of the National Assembly, pins high hopes on Gagik Beglaryan, the newly-appointed Minister of Transport and Communication. During a conversation with www.aravot.am, he said regarding the new appointments, “I know almost all of the newly-appointed ministers, I have a positive opinion about all of them.” As for Gagik Beglaryan, Mr. Bostanjyan is very happy that he has been entrusted with one of the most important fields, transport and communication. Vardan Bostanjyan has no reservations even in regard to the well-known incident related to Gagik Beglaryan, “I don’t want to link one to the other, perhaps, those are processes, phenomena, which I am not competent to understand and assess. I have known Beglaryan since 1995 and I assure you and I want all skeptics to believe that he is a highly-qualified man in terms of work and generally. In the field of transportation, I want to attach
particular importance to our North-South road, it is very important for our country under the conditions of this geopolitical confusion and I am very happy that this part of governance is entrusted to Gagik Beglaryan.
When the PAP ministers handed in their portfolios, President Serzh Sargsyan said during the farewell meeting that he was very pleased with their work. In response to our question whether it was possible that the field – namely healthcare, social security – would regress after them, during the tenure of the new ministers Mr. Bostanjyan said, “I think that these are comprehensive issues of the state and certainly, the minister is very important, but the minister is a member of the Cabinet, nonetheless, and the institution of representatives – i.e. parliament – also has its powers of supervision and I don’t think that we will have any problems in this field because of a personality. Staff is important, but staff cannot be engaged in unauthorized activities.”
