As opposed to the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF), the Heritage Party and the Armenian National Congress (ANC), the Prosperous Armenia Party parliamentary group didn’t clarify its being oppositional with a statement today. During a conversation with www.aravot.am, Stepan Safaryan, a member of the Heritage Party political council, said that the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly Act makes an imperative demand that parliamentary groups represented in the National Assembly clearly assert whether they are oppositional or pro-government, “If the PAP has not made a statement that it is an opposition, in that case, one should say that it should refuse the possibilities provided for by the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly Act. Those rights are guaranteed for the opposition.” The matter is about having chairmen and deputy chairmen of commissions. Stepan Safaryan thinks that the offices of the PAP commission chairmen and deputy chairmen should be redistributed among opposition groups. Let us remind that yesterday
Tigran Urikhanyan, the press secretary of the PAP, said during a conversation with www.aravot.am that the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly Act didn’t make such an imperative demand.
Today Galust Sahakyan, the leader of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) parliamentary group, talking about the oppositional-pro-government attitude of the PAP at an interview given to the Armenian Times, noted that the PAP was neither pro-government nor oppositional – it is in the constructive camp, it calls good things good and bad things bad. In this regard, Stepan Safaryan said, “There are no such categories in the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly. There is a phenomenon of the political forces that have formed the Cabinet and a phenomenon the opposition. If the constructive camp is a political and legal category, they should have mentioned it in the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly Act. Unless it is not mentioned that there is the third camp, the constructive one, they will be compelled to employ the rules of procedure as they are. And it is written for the forces that form the Cabinet and the opposition.
