In Case of War, We Will Win Again, the Minister of Defense of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Says

July 09,2012 11:15

A group of journalists visited different military bases of  Nagorno-Karabakh the other day aiming at covering the everyday life of soldiers, on the initiative of Edik Baghdasaryan, the editor-in-chief of the Hetk website. In the framework of the visit, journalists had a meeting with Lieutenant General Movses Hakobyan, the commander of the defense army and Minister of Defense of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, at the Yeghnikner (deer) military base of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic defense army. The minister conveyed the importance of the Artsakh conflict, “The destiny of the Armenian people depends on its settlement. We have no right to lose our Motherland anymore. Artsakh considered as the Motherland by all patriots has never been and cannot be a part of Azerbaijan. Since 1994 the defense army has been able to perform its tasks, playing a role of the preventer and guaranteeing security in the region.”

In Movses Hakobyan’s words, it is probable that the war will resume, but not in the near future, “In case of resumption, we will win once again. We must not give up the dominant role on the frontline, otherwise, the war will resume. The President of the Republic of Armenia does everything to establish peace through negotiations.” The minster added that the situation was particularly tense in the military positions, from which the enemy was 30-200m away, “The soldier realizes that at every moment the enemy may take subversive actions. The enemy makes the situation tense on the frontline aiming at making it known to the international community that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is not being settled in the framework of the Minsk Group co-chairs and that war is inevitable. On the other hand, it tries to raise the morale of its army, which was rather low during the war and was the reason for their defeat.”
