Yesterday morning, in this building at 66 4th Street, district of Shahumyan, a murder was committed. A 74-year-old husband, Robert Tadevosyan, murdered his 70-year-old wife, Sirush Hajatyan, suspecting her of having a sexual relationship with his neighbor’s young son. The relatives of the murdered woman told www.aravot.am that a year ago, in May, Robert had stabbed his wife 3 times with a kitchen knife because of jealousy again and had been short of injuring her heart. Doctors made huge effort to save Sirush’s life. As for why he wasn’t arrested after that stabbing, the wife of the murdered woman’s brother-in-law said that they had found out that he had mental problems, he suffered from hallucinations, “The children didn’t allow the father to be taken to the mental institution, saying that it was shameful, they were abroad and thought it would pass.”
We inquired what the jealous husband would say, in particular – don’t look at this one, don’t go outside – the relatives answered, “He was jealous only of one person, specifically – the next door neighbor’s son who was of his grandson’s age, he is a young man. He was obsessed with that. That boy is a very good and smart boy, realizing that the man was sick he wouldn’t say anything. After the stabbing they lived a normal life as a husband and wife, but the jealousy was always there.”
In response to our question whether Sirush had been a pretty woman, as the husband had been so jealous, the brother-in-law’s wife said, “She was, for her age, but she was not that pretty, you know. When they were young and just got married, the jealousy was there, it wasn’t to that extent, but he was from Aparan, that thing was in his nature.”

In order to dispel the husband’s suspicion, the relatives offered a solution to the problem, “They have another house on Proshyan Street. We wanted them to sell this house in order that he forgot the neighbor’s son. We told them to sell it and he would go, leave here and forget.” The note “For Sale” has been pasted to the house’s door till now, but unfortunately, there hasn’t been a buyer.
It is interesting that as recently as a week ago, the relatives found out that Robert was a member of the Union of Hunters, he had bought a rifle, “We were all surprised ‘who gave it to him, a man who has undergone a stroke, has committed stabbing, has been brought in, having mental problems.’”
After the stabbing, the spouses basically lived separately – the husband lived in the Proshyan house, but he would suddenly appear and catch the wife by surprise. He came on the morning of the incident also suddenly, he rang the doorbell and the wife opened the door a little late, she was talking to her aunt’s daughter on the phone. Jealousy drove Robert mad and saying that she had seen the neighbor’s son off across the garden, attacked his wife. Afterwards, when he took the rifle out of the trunk, Sirush tried to quickly enter the house and close the door, but she didn’t manage, she went upstairs and suffered gun-shot wounds at the entrance.
The jealous father and the murdered mother have 3 children – 2 sons are in Germany. Sirush has recently returned from Germany, where she went to take part in her grandson’s wedding.
The daughter, Naira, told us that “the situation at home was not tense, he would come, have a meal, it wouldn’t occur to us that he would do such a thing. He killed her outside the door – her legs were inside and the head outside, when we came. When he stabbed my mother a year ago, I tried to talk with my father, but he wouldn’t understand those who tried to defend my mother – s/he would become a mote in his eye, his sworn enemy, he wouldn’t understand anything.”
The daughter, showing her murdered mother’s pictures with tears in her eyes, told us that only one day before the murder, the father had had problems with his stomach, the mother had invited him, had given him a hot soup, had put his feet in water and had washed them, not knowing that the next day, she would be killed by that very man.
Robert Tadevosyan is arrested. When the relatives went to see him, he said, “I have no regret, I did the right thing that I killed her, I did what I had to.”
