Girls of a Children’s Home Are Taken to Turkey

July 23,2012 14:33

Girls of the Gavar children’s home are taken to Turkey – this was the warning gotten by www.aravot.am from its readers today.

Nikolay Nalbandyan, the director of the Gavar children’s home didn’t deny the news during a conversation with us. He added that there were not only girls, but also boys, representatives of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and the management of the children’s home in the group. According to him, the content of the “Turkish” event was the following, “It is, so to say, a cultural event and a holiday. It is probably for 10 days – the duration is not clarified yet – only children over 12 years old will go.”

The director admitted that the news had evoked deep resonance, there had been people who had called 102 and even police officers had come to check the data and lists of the children that were going to leave. Nalbandyan assured that the invitation had been gotten from the Constantinople Patriarchy and was financed by some Armenian-Swedish company, “The cynicism has reached the level when they say anything they want. What is bad in taking 30 children for a tour in Western Armenia – Kars, Ani, the Surp Khach Church, Yeghishe Charents’s house, our ancestors’ land?”

He also said that they had taken the Gavar children to Germany, Holland, the US, France in recent years. “The Patriarch has invited, should we turn an Armenian Patriarch down…? By the way, everyone, including the regional police, knows me quite well; they know that I will do nothing else.”

Let us add that there is no Patriarch of Constantinople and Archbishop Aram Ateshian was elected the Armenian Deputy Patriarch of Constantinople.
