Hrant Bagratyan, a former Prime Minister doesn’t share the opinion of Armen Martirosyan, a member of the Heritage Party, that Raffi Hovhannisyan is a rather charismatic opposition politician and it would be good, if the opposition endorsed Raffi Hovhannisyan in the upcoming presidential election. “If the rest endorse Ter-Petrossian, I will think of it seriously, I must see whether the rest, every candidate, are better than me or my acquaintances,” Mr. Bagratyan said to www.aravot.am.
As for the claim of Mr. Martirosyan that “R. Hovhannisyan can be the candidate who, if being elected, would start real reforms and would take the country out of this crisis,” Mr. Bagratyan said, “I will not continue commenting on that person’s words,” then added, “The idea of a joint opposition candidate should not be a result of an agreement, but the opposition should learn how to hold primaries and the people should decide which of the opposition
candidates should be the joint one who will participate in the future election, I am for that. I say that inside the ANC too that they should stop it and let the people vote. And yet we complain that the people’s vote is rigged. We should organize a vote and not make the people think that Raffi Hovhannisyan is the right choice or Vazgen Manukyan or Levon Ter-Petrossian, not make concessions, we make concessions this time, you make concessions next time, no one has entitled us to do such things, one should decide whom the people will cast their votes for at that moment and show the government that one can organize an election like that.”
