As we know, the Cabinet accepted the resignation letter of Vardan Ghukasyan who has been the mayor of Gyumri for 13 years at its today’s meeting, after which, according to the law, the new community leader must assume the office. www.aravot.am asked Seyran Petrosyan, the deputy governor of Shirak, to clarify once again whether Samvel Balasanyan would be an alternate mayor or will immediately assume the mayor’s office. In response to our question, the deputy governor informed that in this case, there could be no alternate, since an alternate was appointed when there was no community leader and an election was expected, whereas Samvel Balasanyan was an elected mayor, could assume the office tomorrow. By the way, it is not ruled out that tomorrow the newly-elected mayor’s “coronation” ceremony will be attended by guests from the government – at the end of the day, many of them are direct participants in the change of government in Gyumri.
