“They Explain What Happened With the Fact That We Are Involved in the Harsnakar Case,” T. Yegoryan Says

October 24,2012 17:43

Lusine Hakobyan, a counselor of the aggrieved party in the Harsnakar case, gave an explanation in the Internal Security Service of the police yesterday. The explanation was related to the incident that had taken place in the Main Investigation Department on October 8.

The problem is that on October 8 when Tigran Yegoryan, a counselor of the aggrieved party in the Harsnakar case, came to the Investigation Department of Cases of Particular Importance in regard to the interview of witness Shahnazaryan, their client in a criminal case, investigator Ruben Vardanyan prevented T. Yegoryan from participating in the interview. He even made him leave his office. T. Yegoryan opposed and the investigator used physical force against the counselor and pushed him out of the office. Therefore, counselors Lusine Hakobyan and Tigran Yegoryan asked in a complaint filed to the Attorney General to launch an investigation into the abuse of office and prevention of a counselor’s activities by Ruben Vardanyan, a Chief Investigator of Cases of Particular Importance. www.aravot.am got some clarification on the incident from T. Yegoryan. We inquired what assessment of the incident the counselor would make. He replied, “What happened was caused by the

fact that we are involved in the Harsnakar case as counselors of the aggrieved party. The fact that the police mentioned the Harsnakar case in its official statement is clear evidence of this claim of mine.”

And the official statement of the police reads, “This is not the first time Tigran Yegoryan and Lusine Hakobyan mislead the society with groundless and unsubstantiated statements in the framework of the Harsnakar case.”

In response to our question whether one could imply that such a situation and scuffles were provoked to prevent counselors from dealing with the Harsnakar case, T. Yegoryan said the following, “They may have such an intention. I cannot say for sure. However, certainly, dealing additionally with that nonsense is a waste of time and doesn’t contribute to the efficiency of justice at all. As for misleading the society and spreading disinformation, all that is consistently done with the explanations of that very police, instead of performing their direct duties. However, we will not avoid stating once again, we can remind every official about his personal responsibility, actions taken during his tenure and decisions that are made. We will never get tired of and stop filing lawsuits and complaints about that personal responsibility.” Let us remind that charges are brought against Tigran Yegoryan. During a conversation with us, the counselor raised the issue of supervising the internal investigation into the actions of the investigator, in order that it was clear what decision would be made in the Internal Security Service, whether it would be objective or not, whether a comprehensive investigation was carried out etc.

The counselors have applied to the Chief of the Main Investigation Department of the Attorney General’s Office, the Chief of Police, the President’s Supervision Service and the Human Rights Defender’s Office.
