According to the financial statements of the National Assembly members, the wealthiest parliamentary group in the parliament is the PAP.
www.aravot.am inquired of Mikayel Melkumyan, a PAP MP, whether we could conclude from it that the PAP had the closest ties with business. He replied, “That question is not the right one, you know. It may be that, say, a party accepts thousands of small and medium businessmen and in another party, there are people, persons who have bigger businesses. Now, I don’t draw any conclusion from that. The question was not very efficient.”
In response to our question whether that list of financial statements showed the real picture of MPs’ wealth, in his opinion, or members of the other parliamentary groups had been less honest and hadn’t stated about a part of their financial means, the PAP MP said, “No, I am not familiar with those statements. Do you think every MP is familiar with the statements of another MP? But what is the problem there? There are some founders of businesses, they have. Will you believe, if I say that I don’t yearn to find out about the other MPs’ statements?”
