The Former Prosecutor Called the Trial Regarding a Journalist “Directed”

December 03,2012 13:15

Consideration of the appeal filed by Albert Manrikyan, former chief prosecutor of the region of  Kotayk Mesrop Manrikyan’s son, in the Court of  Criminal Appeals against the decision in favor of journalist Ruben Grdzelyan was delayed. Journalist Ruben Grdzelyan didn’t come to court along with his counselor. The next session is due on December 12.

Former prosecutor Mesrop Manrikyan called the decision made by the trial court of the Kentron and Nork Marash administrative districts on this case “directed” and assured that the judge of the Court of Appeals would also be directed from above what decision to make: “The court held that there were elements of necessity. As if Grdzelyan defended himself from my blows, whereas he never said during the preliminary investigation that his actions were related to necessity. I know about the influence on the court, don’t you know who has given the instruction, who his relative is. This court will do the same thing. This is a directed trial.

I know what will happen, I just want it to be quick, in order that I can appeal to the Supreme Court and the European Court.” Let us remind that the trial court of the Kentron and Nork Marash administrative districts found Grdzelyan innocent and compelled A. Manrikyan to pay 50 000 AMD fine.

Let us also remind that Mesrop Manrikyan’s son A. Manrikyan faced trial, because on May 12, 2012, he slapped Ruben Manrikyan arguing with his father on the face, as a result of which the latter got a minor bodily injury.
