“It is the decision of the PAP, and we treat any of its civilized decisions, including this decision, with respect. Only that party is to decide that. They decided so, and we treat that decision with honest respect,” Eduard Sharmazanov, a Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly and the press secretary of the RPA, said during a conversation with www.aravot.am, when asked what the RPA thought of the decision just made by the PAP political council.
We inquired whether the RPA resented the idea that PAP had decided not to endorse any candidate, including Serzh Sargsyan, the RPA leader and the President of the Republic of Armenia. “The RPA is guided by political categories and not by happiness and resentment. The RPA is a mature political force, as it has been said before, and I repeat that regardless of different political forces’ political aspirations and decisions, we are united around our
president and think that today there is no alternative candidate for president for the next five years,” our interlocutor said.

We inquired whether the speculations that the second President of the Republic of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, might announce his candidacy were accurate, in the RPA spokesman’s opinion. “I don’t comment on speculations. When he announces his candidacy, we will talk. Regardless of all nominations, we think that the competition will be for the second place.”
