The first president, Levon Ter-Petrossian, urged in his speech during the Pan-Armenian National Movement (PANM) congress today without clearing up the issue of his nomination for the upcoming presidential election: “Wait for two more days.”
According to Mher Shahgeldyan, a deputy leader of the RLP, it is already too late to make up one’s mind about announcing one’s candidacy or not, “I don’t want to label anyone. The deadline for announcing candidacies for the presidential election will expire in a few days;
political forces and politicians should have already made up their mind. I cannot even imagine what motives and approaches he has. Perhaps, they don’t even want to enter the political competition, realizing that their positions are weak. There may be other reasons. This confirms our predictions that we made, as early as when there were no nominations. I said I don’t see any processes of consolidation in this camp.”

As for Mr. Ter-Petrossian’s observation that he had applied to superpowers to clear up the issue of his nomination, Mr. Shahgeldyan said: “One’s nomination should be checked with one’s own people, what do superpowers have to do with that?”
As for what would change in two days or why Ter-Petrossian hadn’t clarified the issue of announcing or not announcing his candidacy, www.aravot.am inquired of Hovhannes Margaryan, another deputy leader of the RLP, “The issue of nominating a candidate for president should have been cleared up long ago whether one participates or not. This is not an ordinary election. Two days is not a long time, the Armenian people have waited for months, and they can wait for two more days. I am not saying they are looking forward to that, because everything is already clear.”
