“There Is a Task of Being Close to the Trough,” the Armenian National Congress (ANC) Members Don’t Stand by Bagratyan

December 25,2012 16:13

“I am a socialist, Bagratyan is a liberal; how can I support him? What is the point in supporting the honorable 2nd or 3rd place? I know it in advance,” Gurgen Yeghiazaryan, a member of the Social Democrat Hunchakian Party (SDHP), which is in the ANC, made this interesting statement in response to our question whether he wasn’t going to support Hrant Bagratyan in this case. Let us remind that ANC leader Levon Ter-Petrossian stated that he would not announce his candidacy. According to Gurgen Yeghiazaryan, “What will happen is meaningless. A few puppets will do something; the struggle will be for the honorable 2nd place, 3rd place or 4th place. The puppets will take up some low positions, in order to ensure Serzh Sargsyan’s legitimacy. That participation in the struggle for the honorable second place is to get some low position, to be closer to the trough.” We inquired whether even Hrant Bagratyan was like that, he replied: “I am not saying Hrant Bagratyan is such, I am talking about the 2nd or 3rd place, because there is a task of being close to the trough. Let them be closer, we can do nothing about it. Till the spring, afterwards, we’ll see.” As for what would happen after the spring, he said that the leader would be formed who would become the President of the Republic of Armenia.
