Andreas Ghukasyan, a candidate for president, will fulfill his promise made before the New Year tomorrow. He will offer all opposition candidates to jointly withdraw their candidacies. According to him, “The candidates who will not join the proposal will be considered as Serzh Sargsyan’s supporters.”
Mr. Ghukasyan set a deadline of January 15 for the candidates to respond to his statement. That day is the deadline for registration of candidates provided for by the law.
“They have time till January 15 to make up their minds whether they take on responsibility toward our public for this election or not. Today the candidates have an opportunity to make a decision very important for the public, making Serzh Sargsyan the only participant in this election. Thus, they make it possible for the public and political forces to demand Serzh Sargsyan’s resignation. If for some reason the candidates don’t accept, it will be clear for me that they serve the criminal oligarchic regime in Armenia, and they will take on responsibility for all future developments. They – not Serzh Sargsyan – will be responsible to the public.”
He doesn’t have any idea how the candidates for president will respond yet. “We will see tomorrow.”
