Martun Grigoryan, a member of the National Assembly and the chairman of the PAP Shirak council, assured during a conversation with www.aravot.am that they would stick to the party’s decision and would not work for any candidate in the upcoming presidential election.
In response to our observation what they said or how they guided ordinary members of the party who hadn’t made up their minds whom to vote for in the upcoming presidential election, Martun Grigoryan said that their fellow party members knew the party’s official position. “Naturally, if some member of our party prefers some candidate, they can make their choice. The party hasn’t told the party members to support or not support anyone. Everyone is free to make his choice.”
Let us remind that there had been publications in the press that the PAP had instructed its members to work for incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan in the upcoming presidential election. Martun Grigoryan said that he knew nothing about that instruction.
There had also been publications in the press that Gagik Tsarukyan’s brother-in-law, the mayor of Abovyan, had invited the PAP village headmen and managers of the PAP district and regional offices and informed about the party’s instruction. Smbat Yeghiazaryan, the manager of the PAP offices in the region of Kotayk, said during a conversation with www.aravot.am that no such thing had happened, moreover, Karpet Guloyan, the mayor of Abovyan dealt with the issues of his town. “Our party stated that it wouldn’t announce its candidate and wouldn’t endorse any candidate. This election doesn’t interest us, and we don’t care.” With regard to the PAP electorate, he said that they would vote as they liked. Davit Kocharyan, a PAP MP elected through majoritarian representation from the region of Kotayk, responded: “If there had been such a thing, I would have been present. No such thing has happened.”
