What process may the developments that are taking place in Turkey against the government of Erdoghan take, especially in terms of future process of the Armenian-Turkish relations. Answering the question of Aravot.am, the Director of the “Analytical Center on Globalization and Regional Cooperation” Stepan Grigoryan found it difficult to accurately predict whether the ongoing processes taking place in Turkey will develop or not. It is an issue of narrow specialists’ debate. However, the fact that these processes will leave their imprint on the further course of Armenian-Turkish relations Grigoryan does not doubt. “The image of Turkey waved with these developments as a country, which is dynamically developing, including in the field of human rights. Turkey must correct its image and the improvement of the Armenian-Turkish relations may be just one of the steps.” On these days, nine experts and journalists from Turkey are in Armenia, to participate in the discussion on “The geopolitics of the South Caucasus and the Armenian-Turkish relations”.
Today, the Armenian-Turkish relations are frozen at the official level. The official position of Armenia is as follows: unless Turkey ratifies the protocols, Armenia will not make steps. Stepan Grigoryan sees a logic in this position. At this stage, he emphasizes the importance of the second echelon, the activeness of figures and experts on the public level. “Today there are many people in Turkey who are positively disposed towards Armenia. And which is not less important, we have a huge heritage in Turkey, which we should take under care, and we should have it not by opposing, but by negotiations and and relationship building.”,-says Stepan Grigoryan confidently that sooner or later the contacts on public level will provide positive results, leading to the positive move of relations on the official levels.
