“Ijevanatun” complex is demolishing

The Soviet-built half-finished buildings of ‘Ijevanatun’ complex located next to the History and Geology Museum in Ijevan are in poor condition. The complex was to become the national arts center. Half-finished buildings of the complex are lost in the bushes of dewberry and other shrubs, their walls get shattered from rains and wind for years. On September 30, 2010, an of the Cabinet was held in Ijevan, Tavush marz.

During the session, among other issues, the Government approved the list of measures aimed at solving the problems of culture in Tavush marz, which included projects on renovation or restoration of monastic complexes, museums, libraries, houses of culture. At the ad-hoc session, government approved the project-proposal on rehabilitation of the Ijevan sculpture. Ijevan symposium started in 1985 and continued until 1991. During that time, 95 sculptors from 20 countries attended the symposium. The sculptures produced during the symposiums, were giving cultural brilliance to the Ijevan city park. It was announced at the ad-hoc session of the Cabinet that the Ijevan sculpture symposium will be restored in 2011, the Soviet-built half-finished buildings of ‘Ijevanatun’ complex located next to the History and Geology Museum will be handed to “Pyunik” charitable fund to restore the tradition of sculpture symposiums there. Almost 3 years passed after the government ad-hoc session, the sculpture symposium in Ijevan is not restored, “Ijevanatun ‘complex has been handed to Phoenix charitable fund. We learned from Ijevan municipality that the complex is located on the balance sheet of the State Property Management Department.
