Levon Ananayan: “I do as much as I can.”

August 02,2013 11:00

Aravot.am inquired from Chairman of Writers’ Union of Armenia Levon Ananyan as to why the Union is passive toward public issues. We also brought a couple of fresh example that only the pros writer Levon Khechoyan supported sit-in freedom fighters, or sporadic writers joined the action against the price rise of the transport, and the union remained silent. “Our organization has political layers, members of different political orientations and preferences. There is a man that is working for an opposition newspaper, but when he comes here, starts discussing literary issues. Neither the Chairman of WUA nor his presidency, on behalf of 500 writers and a 100 more members outside, have no right to make a statement. For example, how you can make a statement in the name of Alisia Kirakosyan and Robert Hattechyan, they will totally tear you apart, it is not our function … The individual writer should go. I think the problem of the writer is in the reflection of time in the literature. This is also the commandment of Vernatun of Tumanyan … Wasn’t that Levon Ananyan that saved Tumanyan’s house in Tbilisi? One should see what is done. Well, let someone else do it. I am not saying that everything in our work is perfect, but I am doing as much as I can,”- said WUA Chairman.
