Dedicated to the Day of the Teacher

When I worked as a teacher 30 years ago, and was telling the representatives of “broad popular masses”, the first question that they were giving was “how much money you earn.” And when I was replying “60 rubles” (part-time), contemptuous smile was seen on the face of my interlocutors. It was clear that parallel I was working in another 2-3 places where “I was earning” similar amount and getting along, in this regard my life has not changed much. But, I remember all of these to state that the nostalgic allegations that the profession of the first teacher was respected, and now it is not, is not quite true; by “broad masses” it is respected to “make money” by cheating someone or stealing something. The teacher did not have and does not have such opportunities.

“For the sake of justice” it should be noted that in recent years the teachers’ humiliated condition is added to it, when the official successes of the director awarded with the Republican Party Reward are due to the fact as to what kind of services he provided to the authorities during the elections. A subservient, caring for his chare, director cannot manage free and consequently people responsible for their deeds. Accordingly, the teachers are also scared and adaptive to everything. In this situation, the teacher does not have the possibility to be engaged in creative work, and the teacher, of course, is the world’s most creative, imaginative and outlook demanding job. Currently, the teacher should apply to the director for any initiative (the matter is about legal, work promoting initiative), and the latter will say, “Oh! Oh! Oh!, don’t do that.”

Of course, as in the previous century, now there are also wonderful teachers, both in schools and outside of schools, in spite of all of this. The most important thing is that they had “injected” into the students is not the sum of knowledge, nor even the honesty, but patriotism and other commendable features. A good teacher gives its students a “program” for a lifetime, and the essence of this program is always striving to learn something until deep old age, improve their knowledge of the world and about people. And, the strive to learn is there, and it is excluded not to have the remaining listed and unlisted features.

Approximately during the same years, 30 years ago, one of our best actors, Mher Mkrtchyan, was hosted at the State University students, I was also present at that meeting. One of the students asked the artist what should be done in the university. And, he answered, “To study learning.”
