On November 24, Tavush Marzpet Armen Ghularyan left for the city of Berd to meet with the heads of the communities bordering the region. To remind that community mayors of Berd region sent a letter to the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan expressing their concerns about construction of the new road in Vazashen-Paravakar section. The community mayors are convinced that the new road is not either secure from Azerbaijani inroads, and they want Ijevan-Itsakar-Navur-Berd road to be reconstructed. Yesterday, during the meeting in the Berd, the heads of communities were unanimous on the need to reconstruct this road to be safe from Azerbaijani inroads. As informed by head of communities of Berd administrative region, Marzpet Ghularyan had said that the repair of the road on the eve of winter season is not realistic, that currently the construction of a 3.5 km long pebbly road is underway in Vazashen-Paravakar border area, which is a temporary solution to the problem.
There is no information about this meeting in the website of Tavush Marzpetaran. We asked the Head of Information and Public Relations Department of Marzpetaran staff Anna Mangasaryan as to what issues Marzpet discussed in Berd on November 24. She told us to send the question to them in writing. We have already sent a letter to Tavush Marzpet raising the questions on the value of design of the above mentioned new road, the organization implementing the road construction, and the presence of metal mine in the region. According to our data, due to the problem with the road, there is increase in prices of some products in Berd. Residents are concerned that in the coming winter, the bordering region would have a problem with supply of food, fuel and other vital goods. According to our sources, a petition has been started among population with the request to apply to Serzh Sargsyan regarding the road issue.
