Aravot.am asked for the opinion of the head of RPA structure Sahak Minasyan regarding replacement of the word “gender” in RA Law on “Gender equality” with another word, which has also become a hot topic of discussion. We also asked if a person decides to choose its gender, regardless of the fact whether there is such a law in Armenia, or not, whether he/she will go to the clinics to see plastic surgeons and change the gender.
“To tell the truth, I do not understand the psychology, quite frankly, I will just say, despite anything, I will speak as an Armenian man, an Armenian parent. I must say that I do not listen to the discussions, I am not reading either, but I am happy that it is discussed, it should be discussed, first, to present the essence of the matter as appropriate and inform our society, and if presented properly, I am sure that the number of people sharing my opinion would be much greater.
But, on the other hand, it is possible to approach the problem in terms of human rights restriction, but not to ignore, not to forget a minute about the priority of Armenian traditional family, completeness. This is both a commandment, and a history, I like to repeat and would constantly repeat that the tradition as a part of history, is a power, a foundation of psychology, I am totally against distortion of this psychology. The world is big: choosing the other kind of social sex that you say, I do not know what… I do not want to continue, chances are more… Look, we attribute every shift to emigration.
Any shift of settlement is not migration, it has another social name. I do not deny that there is migration, but it is not possible to call any shift of settlement with a word migration because the word migration assumes another matter of social, psychological, and political institutions. If a man has graduated from shipbuilding faculty, has came to his hometown, married, has a family, should go to work, we do not have a shipbuilding factory in Armenia, I bring a rough example, he has to work and create somewhere else.
The same can be said about individual group of artists, if he is going to develop his voice, first he will go to Italy or Germany, will not stay in Armenia, this is another problem. He will have the same opportunity in relevant countries where this tradition, the tradition of existence, is missing, our fellow citizens with this mentality, to live, work, and create, God be thanked…. To our observation whether we understood your words correctly saying that those who want to choose their gender, let them leave the country. “No, I’m not seeing off all, I say as an opinion, but I would like to stress that supporting any psychological reformulation dictated by the time or leading to scientific-technical and cultural development, I am very conservative in maintaining this psychology that comes as a strength given by the history,” said the leader of RPA structure.
