“Misdemeanors” of sit-in activist have reached the Administrative Court

January 15,2014 18:55

At the moment, two lawsuits at a time are filed at the Administrative Court against Vahagn Minasyan, holding a sit-in action in front of the City Hall for months. Central Police Department has submitted two lawsuits at a time against the activist for bringing to administrative responsibility for failing to fulfill the legal requirement of the police officer. One of the lawsuits against the activist refers to the incidents happened in front of the City Hall, on August 25, at 03:30 p.m. Vahagn Minasyan recalls that on that day they were apprehended by the police for sleeping on the stairs of the City Hall.

The lawyers of the activist, Tigran Safaryan and Artak Zeinalyan, today, motioned the court to postpone the hearing, explaining that the investigation can not be conducted without the presence the offender. Preliminary hearing was held on November last year, but the defendant was not present. Mr. Zeinalyan was arguing that their client has not received proper notice of the hearing. The lawyers of the activist also motioned for the plaintiff to submit the core application to them to be able to submit their responses onto it. The plaintiff objected to the defendant’s motion, arguing that the arguments about postponing the motion were not grounded. “The offender was properly notified, he had received the lawsuit, which contained details about the circumstances of the case. The respondent might have applied to the court to get a copy of the lawsuit, but failed to do anything to exercise his rights,” objected the RA Police representative Diana Vardanyan. The court, however, granted the defendant’s motion, and the trial was postponed until March 11.
