These artworks captured the attention of journalists, artist community and general public. The goal of the event is to promote “Equality for women is progress for all” and emphasize how gender equality, empowerment of women, women’s full enjoyment of human rights is essential to economic and social development.
The International Women’s Day is celebrated in many countries around the world. It is an opportunity to recognize their achievements without regard to divisions, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political. In 1975, during International Women’s Year, the UN began celebrating International Women’s Day on 8 March.
In his message on the occasion of the International Women’s day, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon emphasized the fundamental role of women: “Countries with more gender equality have better economic growth. Companies with more women leaders perform better. Peace agreements that include women are more durable. Parliaments with more women enact more legislation on key social issues such as health, education, anti-discrimination and child support. The evidence is clear: equality for women means progress for all.”
Maria Dotsenko, the Representative of the UN Department of Public Information Office in Armenia, said: “We are pleased to compliment the country’s efforts of raising public awareness on gender equality and women’s empowerment in Armenia. The achievement of equal rights and dignity for all is a fundamental principle of the UN. Promotion of gender equality and empowerment of women is the Millennium Development Goal N.3 and the UN in Armenia is pleased to contribute to the efforts towards its achievement”.

One of the artists, Nune Tumanyan, commented: “My colleague and me appreciate the opportunity to share our art with the public and to emphasize the crucial role that we, as women, play in the development of our country. This is an occasion for looking ahead to the untapped potential and opportunities that await future generations of women.”
Nune Tumanyan is an Associate Professor at the Yerevan State Academy of Fine Arts, her works were exhibited in different cities of Armenia, Russia and Italy. On January 27 of this year at “Women and Art Biennale 2014” in Sharja Museum of Arts, UAE, she received the only prize of the biennale – “Best artwork of peace”. Hasmik Avetisyan’s art was exhibited in Armenia, Georgia, Russia, Ukraine, USA. Both are acclaimed artists and members of the Armenian Union of Artists.
The exhibition/sale will be open to the public until 1 April, 2014 on Mondays to Fridays from 15:00 till 17:00.
