“If a person is imprisoned for not accepting the ideas, the society and the political situation, and standing against the slavery program, then it is definitely a political prisoner,” said the freedom fighter Suren Sargsyan, referring to the imprisoned freedom fighter Volodya Avetisyan and Shant Harutyunyan. According to him, the authorities are revenging on the freedom fighter Volodya Avetisyan. “Now, what subtext has the revenge, I cannot say, but I can certainly confirm that he was subjected to political persecution. Volodya Avetisyan and Shant Harutyunyan are our friends, who are fighting for the interests of the Armenian people.” Recall that the ANC vice president Levon Zurabyan had said that Volodya Avetisyan and Shant Harutyunyan are still political prisoners for the ANC, and we still have to investigate to find out how well they meet the standards of the Council of Europe for political prisoners. We inquired from Mr. Sargsyan how he explains the doubts of ANC fighting for release of political prisoners on the issue of Volodya Avetisyan and Shant Harutyunyan being political prisoners, the freedom fighter laughed, “I do not know what curtsey they are making but our country suffers in the hands of these illegal that they do not speak upright; seated on the camel we stoop, therefore we reached these causes. Konchitas are the European standards, if Levon Zurabyan or anyone needs such standards, no problem, let them reach checking by these standards… What did Shant do that Serzh Sargsyan’s whole family is doing everything to keep him there. This is the standard, if a person for his political views and for not tolerating this slavery system is saying ‘no’ to this country and ends up in jail, then he is a political prisoner.” Mr. Sargsyan also said that they are planning to establish a first line and all those concerned about the future of Armenia must be included. “We must reach the unification of the first line and regulate the problem of our country within a short period of time.”
