Today, the Foreign Ministry spokesman, Tigran Balayan, told to “Armenpress” that the proof about Karen Petrosyan’s captive, public humiliation and killing, as well as relevant estimations are duly presented to the international organizations and partner countries.
“Such a reaction proves that the Foreign Ministry acknowledges that it had not reacted timely as it does now, and secondly, it acknowledges that the foreign ministry does not have the conscious of accountability and sense of responsibility before its citizens because it should not be ashamed about where and what to presents regarding the protection of the rights of its citizens or harassment against its citizens, and should first of all inform its citizens”, said the Head of HCA Vanadzor office, Arthur Sakunts, to Aravot.am.
Then, he continued, “In this case, I would counter, why the Minister of Foreign Affairs publicly announced on that days that Armenia is consistent in accession to the Eurasian Economic Union, so what was the necessity for it. When there was tension on the borderline, and the Defense Minister was conducting meetings with international organizations and representatives of foreign diplomatic countries, while the Foreign Minister was sitting idle. Why did the topic of the Eurasian Economic Union occur to the mind of the minister in that tensed period of time, and decided to voice it? In this case a question, why did he voice this topic and nothing about their activities pertaining to Karen, specifically which international organization and which partner state they applied and in what manner?”
We asked Mr. Sakunts pertaining to Karen Petrosyan about what should be done that was not done, he said, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia should have raised the issue related to his captive in all international instances, of which Azerbaijan is a member: the Council of Europe, the UN, the Red Cross… He promptly was to raise the issue at all instances, and demanded that the international organizations were more actively involved in returning the captive or ensuring the safety of the captive. I do not say whether the active involvement by international organizations could affect or prevent the Azerbaijani authorities, but the fact that at least such a step should be done, that’s for sure. Since the MFA was idle with regard to its actions associated with the tension, naturally it is logical that it did not see the necessity of raising the issue of captive of the Armenian citizen.”
