“Revelers”, “pain-takers” and “marginals”

October 28,2014 13:26

The sharp criticism voiced in the two rallies of the first president addressed to the “nervous ones” and “marginals” hurt many people. But if we leave the passion aside (which to say, was not special to Levon Ter-Petrosyan) and accept these allegations as a cold scientific record, then there is nothing there to be offended.

Where have you seen that the political agenda of the country is developed by thousands, or moreover, millions of people, “the nation”? God forbid it happens. Nowhere in the world people think about acute social problems “nation-wide”. The task of thinking, thinking over and analyzing is attributed to limited number of people. There are and have always been authorities, who sitting in their mansions feast and dream that no one obstructs this “nation-devoted” work.

There are, have always been, and will be tribunes, who twice a year or once in every two weeks “share people’s pain” and “remove the thorn from its finger” (of course, virtual thorn). There are and have always been people (a significant minority) who ask some questions to “revelers” and “thorn-removers”, make suggestions and so on. The aim of these questions and proposals is one: that these two groups …. do not become too slow-witted (let’s say this way so that no one is offended).

Whether they listen to the opinion of this minority, or attack and passionately criticize, depends on the maturity of the state and the public institutions. Simply, it makes no sense to expect that these people will make the majority. The majority is “the people”, whom the aforesaid two groups subjugate to manipulations, starting from all, the most democratic countries and ending by the most despotic ones, in this-or-that success.

Let’s take even the Parliament. Can Hrant Bagratyan, Alexander Arzumanyan, Tevan Poghosyan, Edmon Marukyan and several others make the majority? Of course, not. The majority are those who are fighting for their gang to either stay in power or come to power, and every word uttered by this majority at the National Assembly serves these very goals.

Of course, it is wonderful that the two of the above listed people, as well as many of the newly marginals were in the power in early 90s. But, this can happen only immediately after the revolution. Later on, more boring and uninteresting people come: “the revelers.” Well, for me, the unsurpassed master of “pain-taking” is Arshak Sadoyan in the 90s. I remember when he was going out to the street, the representative of the “people” were trying to touch his jacket.
