Justice and Revenge

November 14,2014 13:27

As soon as an incident occurs on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, readily “Facebook Fedayeens” appear in social networks who invent horrible punishments sitting at the computer for the opponent. And since these “brave ones” are a bit “opposition”, condemning shades are also observed in their heroic records. “Should our people have dignity…,” which is followed by their “suggestion”. For example, to slaughter the Azerbaijani subversives currently facing the court.

Such empty loftiness pursue two objectives. First, to discharge your own negative energy, which is psychologically understandable. Secondly, to pretend to be a “national figure”, whose heart hurts so much for the country that he is ready not to spare the keyboard of the computer and write down “cruel sentences.” The crueler or wider-scale is the offered revenge, more you love your country and your nation.

The point that the crime committed by Azerbaijani on November 12 should not remain unanswered, it is clear. But let’s recall the old Japanese proverb (which sometimes mistakenly is attributed to Stalin) “revenge is a dish best served cold”. I remember when the terrorists attacked the Trade Center skyscrapers in New York, during the press conference, the then US Defense Minister Donald Rumsfeld said, “Now, it is our turn to give a strike, justice should be given to those who have carried out the terrorist attack”.

If you think deeply, then taking a revenge and achieving justice are different things. In one case, you give tribute to your not so much bright passions, in the second case, your actions should have nothing to do with your feelings. Of course, the notion about “justice” is also subjective, what is just for you can be absolutely unjust for the other, but, at least, there is a strive to make thoughtful moves here.

Here are the thoughtful moves that are often lacking in us, Armenians, both in foreign and domestic policy. Spontaneous exclamations, unrestrained populism and obvious self-advocacy often prevent the planned and methodical work, with which it is only possible to achieve success. Our helicopter crash is also the case when we should not think about some stupid revenge with fresh traces. We should leave the arena for the specialists: the military will think over the sequence of preventive actions in no hast and thoroughly, due to which the opponent for a long period of time, hopefully, will lose the desire for infringement.

The areas of expressing my patriotism are far away from “Facebook Fedayeenism”.
