Trbna and Ericsson launch digital TV broadcasting throughout Armenia

  • Ericsson supports TRBNA migration from analog to digital DVB-T2 throughout the country

“Television and radio broadcasting network” of Armenia (TRBNA), closed joint stock company of the Ministry of Transport and Communication of Armenia, together with Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) launched a first digital broadcasting signal in company’s network in Yerevan, Armenia. With this project, TRBNA  will be able to immediately implement the DVB-T2 standard, which offers a  with a number of key advantages, including: transmitters operating on the same frequency; enabling the capability to transmit at higher data rates; improving the efficiency of  channel spectrum utilization. As TRBNA completes the final stages of its migration from analog to digital, it will be able to maximize the opportunities presented in the Networked Society.

“After the digital switchover viewers of Yerevan and those of the settlements nearby will be able to watch 18 channels absolutely free and 9 channels will be available for viewers in regions. Nowadays all the existing channels will be included in the social package. Positive results will be obviously visible especially for the people living in regions. Especially in those regions where only 2-5 TV programs are available and the guaranteed broadcasting of 9 TV programs will be great progress” – Grigor Amalyan, TRBNA General director, says.

The migration involves a massive infrastructural transformation of the entire TV broadcasting network throughout entire Armenia, including construction of more than 95 new TV towers, installation of 1 Central Headend, 10 regional Multiplexing stations and 207 regional reception sites, supply of 70 SP310 switches for the distribution of the TV and management traffic over Optical Transport Network, as well as provision of E2E services for solution deployment and integration.
