Recently, the Armenian PhD students delivered a lecture in Reykjavik, capital of Iceland. The PhD students of Yerevan State University Narek Mkrtchyan and Tigran Yepremyan, in the interview with Aravot.am, emphasizing the importance of the lecture, informed that the main University in Iceland with 14 thousand students was the first time hosting the young Armenian historians.
It was also the first scientific-discussion lecture on genocide that was ever held in the Icelandic research institutions. The lecture-discussion was organized ahead to the Armenian Genocide Centennial, thanks to the joint efforts of YSU World History Chair, the World History Armenian Association and the Institute of History of the University of Iceland. The lecture covered issues related to the Armenian Genocide, its consequences and the Armenian Diaspora.
The main objective of the lecture was to present the Armenian Genocide to the Icelandic scientific, educational and public circles as a clash between the Armenian civilizations legacy and the late Ottoman imperial expansionist plans. The lecture was attended by many prominent historians, Armenologists, parliamentarians and government officials.
