“The document, however, is a collective one, because it has passed a very long way in its development stage, and for the first time, officially and in a systemized way, it is also spoken of the principles of demanding, which will be reflected in the form of legal paper envelope. As to what the wording and tasks will be, the approaches may be various”, said the Chairman of the RA NA Foreign Relations Committee Artak Zakaryan, in the interview with Aravot.am, referring to the Declaration published for the Centennial of the Genocide.
At the time of parliamentary announcements, opposition MP Hrant Bagratyan criticized the document, noting that “there is no clear objective, no agenda.” According to the opposition parliamentarian, it is one thing that we want genocide to be recognized, but it is another thing when we turn to the world saying to take care not only of the genocide issue, but our historical sorrow. Artak Zakaryan considers his opposition partner’s qualifications as “individual approaches”. And as to what is assumed in the legal demanding package, our interlocutor urged to be patient. In his opinion, naturally, economic or other requirements should be put forward based on the available international mechanisms. “As a priority task, of course, it should be the international recognition, condemnation, prevention and elimination of consequences,” said our interlocutor. The whole weight and significance published on the occasion of the centennial, in his opinion, is that the public commission is trying to present the whole and comprehensive document by involving all the matters that different segments of Armenians are worried about.
