According to Margarit Yesayan, the 2014 report published by Nils Muižnieks’s does not contain extraordinary negative substantiations and denial sentiments
Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muižnieks calls upon the Armenian authorities to intensify their efforts to tackle the problem of domestic violence.
Aravot.am talked on this matter to the Deputy Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs Margarit Yesayan. She noted that the 2014 report published by Nils Muižnieks does not contain any extraordinary negative substantiations and denial sentiments. “Mr. Muižnieks quite soberly and carefully has examined the issues of concern to his structure and has given the keys to the solution of the existing problems. It is important that the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights states that he will keep working with Armenia’s authorities and the civil sector and will try to be helpful. In particular, the report clearly states that the Commissioner considers the Human Rights Action Plan an ongoing working process and calls on the authorities to conduct a review of the feasibility of the program for its improvement in active participation of the civil society.
Addressing the problems in legislation on the torture, the rights of women and children, the problems in the judicial system and some problems in the justice, the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights mentioned in his report that he encourages the human rights NGOs and government agencies, as well as the formation of other closer working links between the political structures.” To the question of whether Mrs. Yesayan considers the Commissioner’s considerations appropriate, she replied that the Republican Party has repeatedly stated that the European values system does not have an alternative for them. “Anyway, we have never announced that we as a state, as a power and as a society have done everything towards this values system and have nothing more to do. Of course, this is not the case and this is a continual process. It should be noted that we are actively working with the EU and the EU High Representative recently announced in Yerevan that they are in Armenia and have no intention leaving Armenia.”
