Yerevan successfully accepted responsibilities handed-over by Bucharest

In the framework of the European Higher Education Area Ministerial Conference and Fourth Bologna Policy Forum to be held on 14-15 May 2015 in Yerevan, today the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia Armen Ashotyan had a meeting with the Minister of Education and Scientific Research of Romania Sorin Mihai Cimpeanu.

Minister Armen Ashotyan welcomed his counterpart and noted that three years agoArmenia accepted responsibilities of the Bologna Secretariat handed over by Romania,and the Romanian experience proved to be useful for Armenia. In his speech, Armen Ashotyan highlighted the importance of further developing bilateral relations, in particular in the fields of information technologies and Theology through the enhancement of projects aimed at inter-institutional and scientific cooperation. RA Minister of Education and Science underlined that the Armenian community in Romania is among the most ancient ones in Europe, and in Transylvania huge cultural heritage remains that is currently in need of scientific research. The Minister also expressed its gratitude to the Government of Romania for the re-establishment of Armenian Studies Department և enhancing teaching of Armenian language in the University of Bucharest. Armen Ashotyan also touched upon the current inter-state educational cooperation between Armenia and Romania. Organised in the framework of the latter, the scholarship programmes have quite a high demand from the side ofArmenian students.

Armen Ashotyan also stressed the active development of inter-institutional relations and for this cooperation there is already an extensive and successful experience gained. In his turn, the Minister of Education and Scientific Research of Romania Sorin Mihai Cimpeanu thanked for the warm welcome noting that it is a great honour for him to be present in Armenia which has ancient culture and history. The Minister of Romania showed a special interest toward the inclusion of Chess in Armenian secondary school programmes. Armen Ashotyan expressed his willingness to pass on Armenia’s experience in this field to all interested countries. At the same time, the parties highlighted the necessity for carrying out joint scientific research projects.
