Aravot.am asked the Head of General Education department at RA Ministry of Education and Science, Narine Hovhannisyan, to interpret the results of the survey conducted by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, according to which Armenia is ranked the 50th by the effectiveness of school education in Armenia among 76 countries.
Mrs. Hovhannisyan noted that these results are of 4 years old.
“The results of the survey are taken from the results of the “Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study” report 4 years ago, and according to this report Armenia truly ranked the 50-th place, yielding only Turkey in the region, but we are ahead of Georgia and Iran, while the Azerbaijan’s data were completely missing. Four years ago, we had conducted this event of “TIMS” in rather harsh conditions like the unified exams. The children had no chance to rewrite from each other, as the testing was conducted rigorously and very transparent. In fact, this year, Armenia has also participated in this rating, the results of which will be available in 5-6 months. I think that this time we will have better results,” said head of the Department of General Education.
