Ahead of the European Partnership Summit in Riga, a teleconference attended by an EU high official was held in Armenia, in the office of the European Union Delegation. Note that the meeting was held in the format of off the record. During the discussion, a reference was made to the main objectives of the Summit. The EU high official announced that the European Commission has already applied for receiving a seat regarding the Armenia issue. As for the Riga summit expectations, the EU official stressed that Riga is another occasion to reaffirm the intention of cooperation with partners. The EU high official reminded about the passed “difficult period” and also informed that it will be decided in Riga to allocate 3 billion euros to the Association Agreement signed countries, in which Armenia is not included.
To the question of whether the economic issues mat possibly be affixed in the new upcoming RA-EU document, the EU official said that the document in all probability would include a section on trade and investments, which actually will regulate the investments of the two sides. The EU high official once again voiced repeatedly declared posture that the RA-EU relations should be in the domain that would avoid conflicting Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union, as the EU respects Armenia’s decision to join the Union.
