“I do not know what the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan is busy with, it is up to them, the decisions adopted by them are theirs and I would not like to comment on the future steps of Azerbaijan,” Deputy said Deputy Foreign Minister Karen Nazaryan in the interview with the journalists, responding to Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov’s recent statement. Note that the latter has stated that his country’s membership of the EaEU is not excluded, if Armenia withdraws its troops, if the borders are opened and the situation is regulated. Karen Nazaryan said that he has learned about Mammadyarov’s statement only from the press and should read the details to comment on it.
To the observation by one of the journalists that the Russian side also announces that they have in mind to “push” the Karabakh conflict from its place, the Deputy Foreign Minister said that such a statement from the Russian side is natural as the latter is a Minsk Group co-chair country. It is normal that this country from time to time acts with more initiative statements, which we witnessed also in the case of France and the United States. To the question about what Armenia has after the Riga Summit and what could be expected, Karen Nazaryan replied, “The steps to be taken by us are already enshrined in the Riga Declaration, which were also addressed previously. It is hard to make forecasts on the timing, but the main directions that are included in the Declaration are associated with the Armenia-EU cooperation in the future, they will be implemented in a coherent and consistent manner, and all the preconditions are available for it.”
