Claude-Armen Mutafyan, a historian, philologist and Professor of the Sorbonne University who visited Armenia on one week, told Aravot.am some details from the incident happened recently in Paris City Hall between him and an Azerbaijani.
The incident happened last month at the Paris City Hall, during the exhibition of his father’s works dedicated to the centenary of the genocide when he was delivering a lecture on the topic of the history of Nagorno-Karabakh. “As the Azerbaijani ambassador delivered a speech in the same City Hall three months ago, he presented a book, in which Azerbaijan was presented as a paradise of the world, I suggested presenting the history of Karabakh. At the beginning of the lecture, I noticed that 13 Azerbaijanis were present and found their seats in the hall. I also wanted to show them what I know that they are Azerbaijani and said that I am pleased that our Azeri friends also attended to learn a little bit history. I showed the history of Karabakh without specially mentioning the Armenia sources. I showed only by the foreign sources about where Azerbaijan is coming from.
Last summer, I spent one month in Iran with my wife, they do not recognize Azerbaijan, it is an occupied name for them, Azerbaijan is Atropatene, north of Iran, and period. I told about it, and it was a grave silence, and then, when I asked whether there are questions, one girl stood up, and I knew who she is, she is the first adviser to the Azerbaijani ambassador and she began contravening my words. I said, excuse me, now, it is the time for asking questions and if you are going to deliver a lecture, refer to the municipality, get the permission and read your lecture. So much noise was raised that people complained, left the room and so our meeting ended.”
The historian said that the Azerbaijanis were trying to overthrow his lecture, but they failed. “It was a little sad that there was no opportunity to ask questions because of the noise made by Azerbaijanis, but importantly, all participants listened to the lecture until the end and were very interested.”
