“Karen Andreasyan should have been steadfast, I would not have resigned.”  L. Alaverdyan

January 13,2016 16:00

Human Rights Defender Karen Andreasyan, shortly before, stated in the Ombudsman’s official Facebook page that he has submitted his resignation. In this regard, in an interview with Aravot.am, the RA first Ombudswoman Larisa Alaverdyan expressed regret for the resignation. She said, “I regret that he has resigned. I know very well how it has happened and how the things evolved. I am not the first one who has seen it, you all have witnessed. I regret that Karen Andreasyan has resigned, one must you very steadfast in this position.”

We clarified whether she means the known problems at the NA and whether she qualifies them as pressures, Larisa Alaverdyan replied, “Yes, at least what happened is inappropriate towards any political figure. We are not talking towards whom it has happened, it happens towards a high-rank official. I cannot say that it is personified, I see completely different grounds in it. One could feel that things are moving towards the resignation of this person.” To our question of whether she considers this a sign of Karen Andreasyan’s weakness, Larisa Alaverdyan replied, “Not a weakness, you know, people used to say me that if a man were in your place, he would have got a heart attack several times. Don’t you remember what they were doing to me? I do remember such a tough and harsh attitude towards the second or the third human rights defenders as it was in my time. Simply Karen Andreasyan had to continue his assignment until its completion. I understand that it’s hard but this is a high government position and I would not have resigned.”
