Setting a high benchmark

February 23,2016 11:57

More than 20 years ago when in a private conversation I gave overly “idealistic” assessment to the arbitrariness of the authorities, one of more “harsh” representatives of the elite (unfortunately, he has died) rebuked me, “You are looking at everything through the eyes of a cellist.”  It was said without aggression, even with sympathy, and I was not offended and even was proud.

Yes, I think the “cellist’s look” is also necessary (although, unfortunately, I do not know how to play this wonderful instrument).  The “state necessity” should not be acceptable for everyone, which often camouflages the “gang’s interests” in Armenia. Let us sometimes look at our reality from this “idealistic” light.  For example, it says that in the light of freedoms and public influence, we are better than Azerbaijan or let’s say Uzbekistan.  It is true but this comparison should be offensive to us.  Why shouldn’t we be better than Georgia or Ukraine?  Moreover, why shouldn’t we exceed Germany or France?

I am looking at our Parliament from this perspective too.  Theoretically, in any European country, it is possible to have people with intellectual level and upbringing like Mher Sedrakyan.  But first of all, they are trying to hide their stupidity and vulgarity.  Secondly, if they show it, they will fall into the hands of the press and will no longer be elected.  Tokhmakh Mher has also fallen into the hands of the press (this is good) but most likely, he will be re-elected (this is bad) because he is “useful” with his “squads” of the neighborhood guys over 20 years, first and foremost during the “election  processes”.

Yes, it is not necessarily for all parliamentarians in developing countries be academicians although several years ago I enjoyed communicating with the Bundestag MP (Social-Democrat) who was a university professor, a real one, not like Liska.  But I repeat, why our parliamentarians should not be better than the legislators of these countries, over the centuries, we have created a Christian culture which does not yield to that of France or Germany.  Let’s set a high benchmark, maybe today we need more of such parliamentarians who meet this benchmark than the Europeans.

… I recommend sending Mher Sedrakyan to Bayreuth at his own expense as a punishment and make him watch Richard Wagner’s cycle of four operas “Twilight of the Gods” for four days.
