At times, the question of compensation to the families of March 1 victims is raised at the National Assembly, but the authorities do not react to this, what it speaks of that they do not meet halfway even on this issue. Former Head of the National Security Service, leading analyst of the Center for Regional Studies, David Shahnazaryan, in an interview with us answer this question as follows: “The authorities consider that there was no March 1. The authorities are doing everything for our society to forget it completely. There were 10 victims, no one was punished. March 1 was a blow to our people, a blow to our statehood, a blow to our army because the army was used against people. It was the heaviest blow to our army that have ever happened. So far, I see no ground for March 1, I do not say that it will be revealed because it is revealed, the document collecting team has revealed it, but that they will receive a legal assessment. March 1 is an obstacle between us and our future. The sooner the authorities realize it without giving an assessment, at least, to punish the organizers, without it, the routine development of our society and our state is very complex.”
According to David Shahnazaryan, being a demanding and demanding a compensation is not only the problem of the families of March 1 victims, “This first of all is the issue of our society rather than the issue of a political party.” To our observation that is has been 8 years that the politicians here are saying that March 1 is revealed and for 8 years the authorities are saying that they have no connection with March 1, David Shahnazaryan responded, “I think some 3-4 years ago, Serzh Sargsyan instructed to further activate the investigation but as they say, things haven’t budged an inch. Our progress is directly connected with the disclosure of March 1 and bringing the organizers to the court. Without it, I cannot imagine how our society can make progress.”
To the question of whether it was realistic and possible, Mr. Shahnazaryan replied, “The point that it is going to happen, I have no doubt. It often happens that the perpetrators are disclosed decades later and receive a legal assessment. Everything is revealed, everything is clear, it should only be given a legal assessment. So far, there are no grounds that the government authorities would show such witness, but historically it is inevitable that it will happen. The sooner the better because in that case, we would receive an opportunity for major development.”
