“Saying that this is a step back for Russia is too early”

March 22,2016 16:35

In an interview with “Aravot”, referring to the five principles to Russia by the EU and the subsequent event, i.e. the withdrawal of the Russian troops from Syria, Ukrainian political expert Sergey Gerasimchuk said, “If we look from the Ukrainian perspective, we do not believe Russia’s statements long ago. Therefore, prior to analyzing, as a Ukrainian expert, I would say, let’s wait because there is a statement about the withdrawal of the troops but we have read not once that there are no Russian troops in Ukraine in general.

It seems to me that speaking that this is a step back for Russia is too early. Certainly, it is just the way it is seen from the side. On the other hand, we do not know whether all the Russian troops is going to withdraw. This is not a step forward or back but this is another attempt by the European Union to create a platform for negotiations. The fact that the EU has formulated such principles means that it no longer believes the declarations. The European Union will believe only if it sees that Russia fulfills the conditions laid down before it.”
