Tevan Poghosyan. “Russia if not the instigator then at least is the provider of hostilities.”

April 11,2016 11:50

“Russia if not the instigator then, at least, is the provider of these hostilities to take place. I regret that Russia being a Minsk Group co-chair country does not perceive that with its actions it contributes to the fact that Azerbaijan continues its aggression. I would be happy to hear that as a Minsk Group co-chair country Russia applies to the UN Security Council to impose sanctions against any country in the world that will sell weapons to Azerbaijan” – said the “Heritage” faction MP Tevan Poghosyan in an interview with Aravot.am, referring to the statement by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin yesterday that Russia, in accordance with the agreements, will continue to sell weapons to Azerbaijan and Armenia. In the interview to BBC, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev also confirmed it today.

The saddest in the statements of Russian officials, according to the opposition MP, is that they state that both countries are Russia’s strategic partners. “Which means that even the top RF officials do not have the consciousness that Armenia is a strategic ally but not Azerbaijan and there should be differences between these countries.

This means that the level at which decisions are made in Russia, there is a problem of perception about the regional and federal relations. Russia does not know who his partner is and is unable to understand how to normalize its relations,” said Tevan Poghosyan, adding that with these kinds of moves, Rogozin and Medvedev do not add anything to Russia’s relations with Azerbaijan, “Azerbaijan will always remain Russia’s currently enemy Turkey’s best ally. Russia will never be able to change the behavior of Azerbaijan to Turkey with which Russia is confronting today. But thereby, they promoted that no positive problem will develop in Armenia towards Russia. On the contrary, more negative feelings appeared toward the strategic ally. It turned to be a zero effect with Azerbaijan, a negative effect with Armenia. If this is the policy of Russia, then it is their choice. We should learn lessons, separate our interests and guided by our interests.”

Recently, the Armenian side used a heavy diplomatic language. Tevan Poghosyan believes that we should not express tough position but show a tough stance. It might be a variety of activities: voting in the international organizations not driven by Russia’s but Armenia’s interests, disclosure and elimination of corruption schemes of Russian companies operating in Armenia and so on.
