“I am spending a good time in Armenia. I was here for a month. Every day, I was going out to discover people, the city, and generally, the country. In the meantime, I was taking notes. I recommend everyone to visit Armenia. I enjoyed my time,” – said the young German artist Stefan Schwarzer in a briefing with the journalists who travelled to Armenia in October 2015 by the scholarship of the Saxony-Anhalt Art Foundation and the German Foreign Ministry, following the traces of German artist Heinrich Theodor Wehle, who as a participant of the expedition had visited Armenia in the early 19th century. Schwarzer documented what he saw and discovered in Armenia in his numerous graphical paintings, some of which are now on display at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany.
“Garni, Noravank, Haghpat. What I managed to see was beautiful, but I did not have much time to stay in these places, to draw in the place, talk to people… I do not love to travel so fast. But I liked the process of drawing in the movement. I liked the contrast between Yerevan and the areas outside of Yerevan. People are not aggressive, they are friendly. I do not speak Russian, but I was communicating with them with hands and smile…,” – said the painter. “The embassy does not have so many rooms, but there is quite a large hall, the walls of which I think was worth to be decorated with some sample of art, also to some extent combine them with some political issues,” – said Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary H.E. Mr. Bernhard Matthias Kiesler. Incidentally, the Ambassador suggested to visit the Embassy tomorrow, on May 27, for the open door event under the Days of Europe, at 15 00-19 00. It is planned to have a tour in the Embassy, a conversation with the ambassador, discussions, concerts, exhibitions and so on.
