July 18,2016 17:15

“Military coups to some extent have become a tradition in Turkey” – said Giro Manoyan, a member of ARF Bureau, also the head of the office of the Armenian Cause and Political Affairs, in an interview with Aravot.am, referring to the coup attempt in Turkey. He considers that the coup attempt failed because the army was not united, “True, the authorities are talking about Gülen and Gülen-supporters, it’s true that there were Gülen-supporters in the perpetrators of the actions, there could be a conflict of interests here but the main cause and reason, I think, were these discontents that were formed in the country. The direct result of this situation will be the fact that Erdoğan will come out much stronger, however, it does not mean that it would be good for Turkey because Erdoğan will continue his policy of polarizing the society, which is fraught of more new shocks.”

Giro Manoyan mentioned that the incident will affect Turkey’s foreign policy, with the possible increase of their mistakes, “The happiest in this history are the pro-Syrian circles, who apparently have begun celebrating success pretty fast, early of the situation. I think that generally, given the fact of what kind of policy has Erdoğan conducted during his 15 years in power, both domestic and foreign, I think it will become more audacious.” Addressing to Armenia, Giro Manoyan said that no positive change has taken place in the establishment of ties with Armenia, “Until recently, establishing ties with Armenia was not a priority for Erdoğan, now moreover. Azerbaijan may try somehow to take an advantage of this situation and apply to Turkey to take other actions on Karabakh issue.”
