During the National Assembly-Government Q&A, newly appointed Defense Minister of Armenia Vigen Sargsyan was asked to present his vision for the future development of our defense and the programs that are going to be implemented in the foreseeable future.  Vigen Sargsyan replied that he will present a more comprehensive vision in the government program, “Being a new person, however, he is well aware of the sphere because the defense ministry is nothing more than another manifestation of the Presidential Administration as a tool of the Supreme Commander – a control over the Armed Forces.

Today, we had the chance to discuss the outline of the upcoming program at the Prime Minister’s office.  There will be on the vision of Supreme General Commander and Administration over the Armed Forces and the army, which means to make a transition from army-building to a nation-army building in the 25th year of the existence of our national army.  Given the political challenges that exist, it is clear that the big army in size will continue to be a part of our reality.  Therefore, we must understand two important factors: what should be done for the army, as it is used to say, to become the leading and locomotive of the state from being a big burden for our state and economy.

The entire population should have programs connected with the army: scientific, research, economic and industrial.  The army could become not a problem but a solution.  The army must become a society school and smithy from just being a mirror of the society.  After demobilization from the army, the man should be more patriotic, educated, strong, combat-capable than before the conscription.”  The minister said that practical steps will be taken to make all this a reality from legislation.
