Four reasons why Russia has no right to sell arms to Azerbaijan

November 12,2016 18:25

“Certainly, it is not sold for only to have a war in Karabakh but it is clear that if there is a Karabakh conflict, it will be used in the conflict zone.  It is not only an assumption: it is proven by the experience over years,”- said Head of the “Modus Vivendi” Center, political scientist Ara Papian, in an interview with Aravot.am, commented on the view of Russian famous statesman Nikolai Ryzhkov that “selling weapons to Azerbaijan by Russia does not mean that Russia is doing it specifically for having a war in Karabakh.”  “What does it mean that everyone is selling… Let Mr. Ryzhkov be kind to mention which strategic partner sells weapons against the enemy of its strategic partner being is in the war.  There is no such thing in the world.

First, if Russia were not our strategic ally we perhaps would have no right to be offended of him.  Secondly, Russia is our ally in the CSTO, consequently, again it has no right to sell. We have a union state with Russia, we are in the EaEU, in other words, a state sells weapons against the state being its part, here is the 3rd reason.  Fourth, Russia is one of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs.  The other two of the three co-chairs do not sell weapons to the parties in conflict as they clearly realize that it may lead to the change in the format of the conflict, escalation of the situation and the war,” said Ara Papian.

We asked to comment on the fact that the signboard with the image of Nikolai Ryzhkov as a National hero of Armenia is posted at the entrance of “Yerablur” pantheon while, for example, the signboards with the images of Monte and Vazgen Sargsyan are posted relatively far away from the entrance of “Yerablur” pantheon.  As mentioned by the political scientist, sadly that a man like Ryzhkov is a national hero of Armenia in Armenia, “Firstly, it is not clear why Ryzhkov is given such a title.  He was the prime minister of the USSR and had fulfilled his duties in the zone of disaster.  And it took place when there was no Republic of Armenia.”  According to Ara Papian, awarding the title of the National Hero of Armenia to Nikolai Ryzhkov is not an expression of his merit but his political toadyism.
