“Relationship between Turkey and Azerbaijan regarding military equipment is not nearly as significant as Azerbaijan-Russia”
Aravot.am asked NATO The Head of the NATO Liaison Office in Georgia William Lahue to comment on the activation of Turkey in the Middle East region, but he preferred to emphasis the actions of Russia.
“Russia is your ally. But your ally is providing major weapon systems to Azerbaijan and the relationship between Turkey and Azerbaijan regarding military equipment is not nearly as significant as Azerbaijan-Russia. Russia is providing all the major systems: airplanes, helicopters…”, said William Lahue hinting that when speaking of the Turkey’s activation in the region you cannot consider Turkey alone: “You should look other countries in the region how they are affecting the situation”.
William Lahue also added that Turkey is an important NATO ally and is an important partner in region for both Georgia and Azerbaijan: “And it is Turkey itself that determines the relationships between itself and its neighbors. But one thing is important to keep in mind: NATO allies are dedicated to the maintenance of peace and stability”.
