The re-construction of Vardenis-Martakert highway is about to be completed.
Hasmig Krikorian, head of the PR department of the Hayastan All Armenian Fund, told Armenpress the reconstruction will be finalized in the half of 2017.
After commissioning the highway, the economic and social contacts between the 35 nearby communities will be boosted.
“Currently, the 110km part out of the 114km is ready, 88km of which with double asphalt layer. Works are underway at the 4th km of the Sotk highway part. The construction works will be completed mid 2017. In spring, during favorable weather conditions, the asphalt laying works will continue”, she said.
The new highway will enable travelling from Yerevan to Stepanavan in about 1 hour shorter period of time than before, and from Yerevan to Martakert the highway is more appropriate.
Officials have supervised the construction of this strategically important highway and have focused on the quality of asphalt.
Hasmig Krikorian says asphalt samples were sent for laboratory analysis during the entire process to ensure the quality of the highway.
During the entire process of construction, the highway was open for both passenger and cargo vehicles. Traffic was never put on halt. The OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs have already had the chance to travel on the highway. They returned from Nagorno Karabakh to Armenia via that highway.
The 5km road which leads to Chapar from the Vardenis-Martakert main highway has also been paved. The fund has built the school of the village. Currently, three houses are under constructed for the local large families.
“The road leading to Dadivank has also been improved. The road has been widened up to 10 meters, becoming safer”, she said.
Funds raised at the Telethon 2013, 2014 were directed for the project. The governments of Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh also provided financial assistance for completion of the project.
The fund also carries out several programs aimed at infrastructure development in various communities, simultaneously with the reconstruction of the highway.
