Defense Minister Vigen Sargsyan, responding to the RA first President Levon Ter-Petrosian’s speech, said at the meeting with journalists that we are proud of Henrik Mkhitaryan but he is not the only one, Armenia still has other reasons for pride and personalities. “We are equally proud of and delighted with our world-famous musicians who perform on leading stages of the world, like Sergey Khachatryan or Narek Hakhnazaryan. We are proud of our Olympic champions, our medal winners and chess players who are bringing the gold and cup of the world to Armenia for years,” said Vigen Sargsyan.
As the Defense Minister mentioned, we are first of all proud of our soldiers who are standing on the border and of our commanders and officer who are backing our soldiers, “Who day and night with their very hard service make the peaceful development and progress of our country possible.” Vigen Sargsyan responding to RA first President’s criticism about the “nation-army” ideology, said, “I exclude that Levon Ter-Petrosyan does not clearly understand that “peace now” is impossible without a strong defense system.”
According to the defense minister, “nation-Army” ideology is not about militarization of the state, it is about the close cooperation between the public and the armed forces, “It is an ideology to closely connect the armed forces with the public, to use the capabilities of the armed forces for the advancement of the public and state.” Talking about the pacifism, the Defense Minister noted that it has a place in every state, it is another question of when and how, “It is timely only when directed at curbing the bellicose policy of the country’s leadership as a civil initiative. Whereas in a situation when the country should be ready for the military adventures dictated thereto, pacifism, I think, is not the best partner.”
As the idea of the first president of Armenia that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev is a rational thinker statesman, Vigen Sargsyan said, “A person who considers Armenians as enemies of Azerbaijan and Yerevan as a historical territory of Azerbaijan, giving him this kind of characterizations divert from the reality.”
