“Armenia’s accession to the CSTO and the EaEU, and Georgia’s striving to the EU and NATO will not hamper Armenian-Georgian relations.”

December 27,2016 15:29

“Georgia’s accession to NATO and EU is not a question of the “near future” but anyway, as Maia Panjikidze said, it cannot cause serious obstacles in the Armenian-Georgian relations” – said the expert in Georgian studies, Alik Eroyants in a conversation with Aravot.am.  He is convinced that the fact that Armenia is a member of CSTO and EaEU while Georgia strives to deepen its relations with the European Union and access the NATO cannot cause obstacles in the Armenian-Georgian relations.

“The signing of the EU Association Agreement by Georgia, on the other hand, Armenia’s accession to the EaEU were causing fear with many people serious problems could arise in the Armenian-Georgian relations, however, the problems are being overcome.  We did not see serious negative consequences,” noted Alik Eroyants.

We also asked to comment on the opinion of Russian experts that the Russian-Armenian joint military troop is an attempt to recreate a USSR Transcaucasia military oblast to which Georgia and Azerbaijan will join in the future.  “Georgia strives to be a member of NATO, and from this perspective, the mentioned opinion is not realistic,” – noted the expert.
